Marie Kjellson

Producer Marie Kjellson, born in 1981, has produced acclaimed films including The Ex-Wife by Katja Wik (New Directors Competition, São Paulo), Turist/Force Majeure by Ruben Östlund (Prix du Jury, Un Certain Regard), Victim-Mentality Rhetoric by Katja Wik (Audience Award Startsladden, Göteborg Film Festival) and Incident by a bank by Ruben Östlund (Golden Bear, Berlinale). Marie was awarded a Swedish Guldbagge for Force Majeure (Best Film). Force Majeure was distributed in 68 countries, nominated for a Golden Globe and shortlisted for an Oscar.

Marie started her career working at Plattform Produktion in 2004 following a couple of years as an editor. During 2012-2013 she was CEO of Plattform Produktion. Previous films with Plattform Produktion includes work as line producer on PLAY and production manager on Involuntary and Weekend. In 2013, she founded Kjellson & Wik, where she (apart form feature debut The Ex-Wife by Katja Wik), also produced short film The Committee by Gunhild Enger (Norway) & Jenni Toivoniemi (Finland), which premiered in competition at Locarno Film Festival and won several awards internationally. International co-productions further include feature film Concrete Night by Pirjo Honkasalo (Finland). Between 2018-2020, Marie worked as Head of Film Production with Sweden’s second largest commercial agency Stendahls.

Marie has an education of business, economics and law at University of Gothenburg and Film- and TV-studies at Skurups Folkhögskola. Marie is an EAVE 2012 graduate and was appointed Producer on The Move in 2020 and selected for ACE Producers Network in 2022.

Apart from producing films, Marie is actively working as a mentor to young producers, currently with the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin. Previous mentorships include Nordic Bridge, a collaboration between Nordic countries and Brazilian filmmakers.
